Naperville Diabetes and Peripheral Neuropathy Doctor. Diabetes Linked to Hypothryoidsim. What You Need To Know Dr. Richard Hagmeyer Naperville IL

Hypothyroidism Linked to Type 2 Diabetes

Hypothyroidism is a well-recognized risk of Type 1 Diabetes, but new research shows there’s a strong association with Type 2 Diabetes as well. In a study involving over 5,000 people, researchers found the prevalence of hypothyroidism to be nearly 6 percent among people with type 2 diabetes, compared to just under 2 percent in those without.
The association was so significant that researchers recommended routine screening for hypothyroidism at the time of a type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

It’s estimated that anywhere from 10 percent to 31 percent of type 2 diabetics may have thyroid dysfunction, with subclinical hypothyroidism the most common thyroid condition. Subclinical hypothyroidism has also been linked to metabolic syndrome, a condition that increases your risk of diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.

Both thyroid disorders and diabetes involve a dysfunction of the endocrine system. Type 1 Diabetes and the most common cause of hypothyroidism — Hashimoto’s disease —both of these conditions are autoimmune diseases and having one autoimmune disease increases your risk of developing another.
If you suspect you have a Thyroid problem despite being told your labs are “Normal” click here to learn more. Some of the symptoms include weight gain despite diet and exercise, fatigue, mental sluggishness, Panic attacks, Depression, Cold or Heat sensitivity, Heart Palpitations, Loss of hair.

Even if you have been told by your physician that your thyroid is “normal” that does not mean that your thyroid is functioning at an optimal level for you.
With type 2 diabetes, coexisting hypothyroidism may increase your risk of heart problems, and the researchers noted that early identification of both conditions could improve heart function, blood pressure and lipid profile. Another words you need to make sure that Your Thyroid is truly healthy.

A separate report in Clinical Diabetes noted:

“ … Hypothyroidism is accompanied by a variety of abnormalities in plasma lipid metabolism, including elevated triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations. Even subclinical hypothyroidism can exacerbate the coexisting dyslipidemia commonly found in type 2 diabetes and further increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.”

Naperville Peripheral Neuropathy and Type II Diabetes Center. Can Diabetes be Reversed? Dr Richard Hagmeyer Says it Can. Naperville, IL

Diabetes Can be Reversed

If you’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, or Insulin Resistance you should know that it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Although conventional physicians will typically prescribe drugs for type 2 diabetes immediately, a commitment to healthy lifestyle changes — including exercise and dietary changes that include limiting your refined carbohydrates — is often successful at getting your blood sugar levels back into a healthy range.

CNN recently featured an article with the headline “Reversing Diabetes is Possible.” They featured the story of Morgan Stanley executive Jonathan Legg who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at age 39. Rather than take drugs to control the condition, as his doctor recommended, Legg decided to make lifestyle changes and was able to successfully reverse the condition. He no longer has diabetes. This is not just one isolated instance. We see this at The Naperville Institute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions on a daily basis.

Dr. Michelle Magee, director of the MedStar Diabetes Institute in Washington told CNN:
“We have seen numerous people reverse their condition.”

Dr. Richard Hagmeyer Of the Naperville Institute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions agrees, as he too has many patients who have reversed Type 2 Diabetes and Insulin Resistance naturally.

Naperville IL. Diabetes Diet. Why Diabetes Diets Don't work. Part II Naperville Institute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions. Dr Richard Hagmeyer

diabetes-diets from FoodFacts.com
Why Diabetes Diets Dont Work For Diabetics
I wanted to spend a little bit more time on Diet and Diabetes because one of the most common complaints I hear from patients seeking Relief from Diabetes is that they followed a Diabetes diet and it didn’t work. Let’s examine why it failed and what the long term consequences of thinking you can go on eating what you want truly are.

In doing a quick Google search on diabetes diets, it's easy to see why most people who have type 2 diabetes are frustrated. One of the first websites I clicked on giving diabetes diet recommendations, which it said followed the American Diabetes Association guidelines. They gave the following recommendations:

1.    Eat more starches
2.    Consume more  grains
3.    Eat 5 fruits and vegetables per day, and
4.    Eat sweets in moderation. They also said for breakfast that you should have cold cereal with skim milk and a bagel with a teaspoon of jelly on it.

As you can imagine that sound pretty much like what you have been told to do your whole life! If you are following anything remotely similar to this “Diabetes Diet” recommendations, you are destined to only get worse year after year. I don’t care if you are taking your diabetes medication faithfully and your blood sugar is “under control”. This lifestyle of eating will KILL YOU!

This Can be disastrous to the Diabetic who also suffers with Gluten Sensitivity Peripheral Neuropathy.

Remember this is what most of my diabetic patients have been told to eat by their dietician who usually follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines. I will tell you, don’t expect to get better if you continue to follow these recommendations.
  1. Cold Cereal – is filled with grains and carbohydrates and both are explosive for blood sugar. If you aren't sure, just try having a bowl and testing your blood sugar about two hours later.
  2. Skim Milk – also has carbohydrates in it and taking the fat out of the milk doesn't do you much good either. The fat would actually slow down the release of carbohydrate sugars from the milk and the cereal meaning it would be better to have the fat in the milk.
  3. Bagels – are loaded with carbohydrates and explosive to blood sugar levels.
  4. Jelly –is basically pure sugar being put on top of a carbohydrate bomb.
This Can be disastrous to the Diabetic who also suffers with Gluten Sensitivity Peripheral Neuropathy.
Learn more about Peripheral Neuropathy here

It's hard to believe that anyone trying to help someone with Insulin Resistance, diabetes or type 2 diabetes would recommend a breakfast like this. These recommendations have put many of my own personal family members in the grave early. Unfortunately, this was long before I knew, what I now know.

This “Diabetes diet” information came right out of the old food guide pyramid. Patients with type 2 diabetes are going in and paying professionals to teach them this type of information.

Why would it be ok for someone with type 2 diabetes (Insulin Resistance) or diabetes to eat such a large quantity of carbohydrates and grains for breakfast or any other meal?

Maybe because we are too afraid to tell you the truth… There an awful lot of money at stake keeping you sick. Think about it…………..We keep you eating all of the same food that played a role in getting you sick in the first place, then we start you out on medication, and after 5, 10 or 15 years of ignoring the true cause of your problem, you have MORE health problems of which we offer MORE medications.  You become a repeat Customer! But now it’s for blood pressure pills, acid reflux medications, antidepressants, erectile dysfunction meds and the list goes on.

It’s no a surprise to see Why we have epidemic levels of Insulin Resistance (blood sugar levels over 100 but less than 126) type 2 diabetes( blood sugar levels over 127 in the United States.

The best way to fatten up livestock is feeding them carbohydrates and grains. If you have trouble believing this take a look at our children today. They are getting fatter and fatter and Diabetes is exploding within this demographic.

Americans have been treated like live stock. Grains for breakfast, Grains for lunch and Grains for dinner.  Take one look at our children’s lunch menus and you will quickly see what I mean. Fatten them up and then send them to the slaughter house.

Take a look at the statistics for Diabetics and you will quickly see that they are not pretty, limb amputations due to Peripheral Neuropathy, blindness, Sexual dysfunction, Kidney dialysis, increased risk factors for stroke and cancer and this is all while you faithfully take your medications.

It’s easy to see why Diabetics don’t get better, when we are teaching this kind of Nutritional Advice.

Reverse Diabetes Naturally. Why Most Diabetes Diets Dont Work. Dr Richard Hagmeyer. Naperville IL

REVERSING DIEABETS CAN BE DONE NATURALLY! WE DO IT EVERYDAY IN OUR OFFICE.

There are numerous websites out there giving information about diabetes diets. More often than not, most of these diets are filled with empty promises and some of these diets are just outright WRONG. It's time to bring some clarity to this very murcky issue.

1. Most diabetes diets are Not tailored to the individual; meaning that they are a one size fits all diet. Each person with type 2 diabetes has different set of problem and each person requires different modifications. It's simply not possible, to give every person the same Nutritional or Dietary recommendations when they all have different challenges to overcome. This is why The Naperville InstituteFor NeuroMetabolic Solutions offers advanced Metabolic Testing that helps differntiate the unique set of challenges each diabetic is facing.

2. Most diabetes diets give a recommendation to increase the amount of whole grains. There is a significant amount of carbohydrates in grains which leads to increased blood sugar levels. Grains also contain antinutrients cause insulin surges. If this wasn’t bad enough think about how we fatten up live stock. We feed them grains. If you take a look around, whats happening to Americans is that we are being fattened up.  In addition we are seeing more and more people who have gluten sensitivities and leaky gut. Gluten sensitivity and Celiac Disease are very common amongst diabetics and if you have a gluten sensitivity or Celiac Disease or any kind of autoimmune disease. I highly recommend that you Stay away from them. Click on the Picture below to learn more.

 3. Many people have food allergies that they are unaware of. If you have a food allergy and you consume that food, you will see an increase in your blood sugar level. The reason this happens is because the food allergy causes inflammation, and inflammation leads to an increase in your blood sugar levels. Diabetes diets do not take this into consideration and they can lead to dissapointments and failure for many people. It's critical to find a doctor who specializes in Natural Diabetes treatment options that clearly understands food allergies, Leaky Gut and its effects on your immune system.

4. Many allow sugar in various forms. Honestly, if you're a diabetic, one of the most important thing you can do is significantly limit any intake of sugar. Again there are safer forms of sweeteners you can use, but the best idea is to cut the sugar out. Artificial sweeteners like sweet and low, splenda and other fake sugars also cause inflammation and this can cause your blood sugar to go up. The reality here is that if you want to get well, you Need to give up the sugar.

5. Finally, a lot of diabetes diets put little emphasis on vegetables. Vegetables are rebuilders. They provide us with the building blocks of growth and repair. There should be a HUGE emphasis on eating plenty of vegetables, and protein. A good protein source as well as Fats and Fiber are absolutely critical to keep your blood sugar levels even.

There's a lot to learn about making good food choices for diabetes, and there's a lot of bad information out there. Most diabetes diets have some merit, but you have to think for yourself and find a well-trained health professional to help you.

Dr Hagmeyer of Naperville Neuropathy Relief Warns Diabetics About The Dangerous Effects of Paxil and Statins. Dr Richard Hagmeyer

Taking These Commonly Prescribed Drugs Could Raise YourBlood Sugar

Up to 1 million Americans may be taking a prescription drug combo that may significantly raise blood sugar levels, and in some cases may be responsible for a blood sugar spike that leads to the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

The drugs — Paxil and Pravachol —belong to two of the most commonly prescribed drug classes in the United States: Antidepressants and statin cholesterol-lowering drugs. When taken in combination, Paxil and Pravachol increased blood sugar by an average of 19 milligrams per deciliter among those without diabetes and an average of 48 mg/dl among diabetics.

The fact that the blood sugar spike was so significant in those with diabetes is concerning considering the American Diabetes Association notes that statins like Pravachol are the “most effective cholesterol-lowering drugs” to reduce the amount of cholesterol your body naturally produces” as well as to “reduce heart attacks and strokes.” They also note in this PowerPoint presentation that “most people with diabetes need medications to reach their target blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol (ABC) targets.”

This is debatable according to Dr Hagmeyer, but the point is that many diabetics are prescribed cholesterol-lowering drugs, including Pravachol, by their physicians. Further, it’s estimated that up to one-quarter of people with diabetes also suffer from depression, a rate that’s nearly twice as high as it is among those without diabetes. So it’s safe to say that many diabetics are also prescribed antidepressants.

But taking this drug duo if you have diabetes clearly appears to be dangerous to blood sugar levels, and even if you don’t, the drug combo could potentially push your blood sugar into a diabetic or pre-diabetic range.

The finding was not a fluke, either, as in addition to analyzing data from human patients, the researchers conducted an experiment in mice. Once again, when taken together Paxil and Pravachol increased blood sugar, this time from an average of 128 mg/dl to 193 mg/dl —that’s a whopping 65 mg/dl increase!

Other drugs, ranging from corticosteroids to decongestants and cold remedies to statins on their own, can also wreak havoc on your blood sugar levels, so if you experience an unexpected increase in yours, always ask your health care provider if your medications could be to blame.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism, especially at the subclinical level, are often minimal or, like fatigue, dry skin, constipation, muscle cramps and memory problems, may mimic those of many other conditions, making it incredibly easy to miss.

Fortunately, dietary approaches and other lifestyle changes can often help bring both your thyroid function and blood sugar levels back into the normal ranges. For more information, contact the Naperville Institute For Neuro Metabolic Solutions at 630-718-0555.

Suffering From Diabetes? Avandia linked to 43% increase in Heartattacks. Dr. Hagmeyer, Naperville NeuroMetabolic Solutions Diabetes Report

Avandia to be Pulled From U.S. Retail Pharmacies

Eight months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it would significantly limit the use of blockbuster diabetes drug Avandia, the Agency has decided to take even further regulatory action.

With the first ruling, Avandia was no longer prescribed for new patients unless their physician certified that other medications and interventions were not working. The new rules, which go into effect November 18, state that Avandia will no longer be sold at retail pharmacies and will only be available to patients who:
  • Could not successfully control their blood sugar with other medications
  • Have been informed of the risks and still decide to take it
  • Have been “safely” using the drug
But the notion of “safely” using Avandia is misleading at best, as it has been linked to serious risks to your heart. These risks have been known for years; in 2007 a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine linked Avandia to a 43 percent greater risk of heart attack and an increase in the risk of death from cardiovascular causes compared to patients not receiving the drug.

But while the steep heart risks came to light publicly just a few years back, the drug’s maker may have known of the risks for more than a decade — since 1999. As the New York Times revealed last year, a study by SmithKline conducted in 1999 found that Avandia was more dangerous to the heart than a competing drug, Actos.
But despite the negative results, SmithKline chose not to post the findings or submit them to the FDA.

The good news is that many people may be spared a future heart attack now that Avandia will be essentially blacklisted. You deserve to restore your health, not risk it with potentially toxic drugs. And you can often do just that — become free of drugs, blood sugar worries, even get off insulin and reverse type 2 diabetes — when you are able to identify the underlying causative factors of your condition, and address them with a customized treatment plan.
