Neuropathy Pain Doctor Naperville IL Gluten Sensitivity and Peripheral Neuropathy What you Need to Know. Dr Richard Hagmeyer

Gluten Sensitivity and Peripheral Neuropathy. Naperville IL Dr. Richard Hagmeyer

  • Gluten-free cookies
  • Gluten-free cereals...
  • Gluten Free Bread
  • Even Gluten Free Beer

It seems these days that “Gluten Free” has become a major buzzword. You can go to the grocery store and see more and more gluten free products popping up. We just finished a seminar last week discussing the dangers of gluten and the common pitfalls often made when people go “gluten free.”

Unfortunately with so many people “trying to go gluten free” the seriousness behind those who have a gluten sensitivity seems to be getting diluted.
Going gluten-free is more than just the latest fad diet. For those who have a gluten sensitivity you realize that Gluten KILLS. That right I will say that Again. GLUTEN KILLS!

Especially for the growing number of people with celiac disease (aka gluten sensitivity).

If you have Celiac Disease, Hashimoto’s, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes, Neuropathy, Ideopathic Neuropathy, Diabetic Neuropathy, IBS, or any other autoimmune condition you might be familiar with some of the common symptoms of gluten sensitivity:
  • Anemia
  • Change in weight
  • Chronic diarrhea or constipation (or both)
  • General weakness
  • Oily, foul-smelling stools
  • Vitamin Deficiencies
  • Stomach problems, cramping, gas, distention, bloating, vomiting
If you look at these symptoms it quickly all makes sense why Neurpathy patients never get truly well. They never find a doctor who will look at their entire Health Picture and put all the pieces of their Health Puzzle together. Thats what we do at the Naperville Institute For Neurometabolic Solutions. This is why we get results!

Learn more Here about our Approach to Treating Patients who suffer with Neuropathy.

Celiac disease or gluten sensitivity is an autoimmune inflammatory disease (often associated with Peripheral Neuropathy) that damages the lining of the small intestine. If you have this disease, eating foods that contain gluten - a protein found in wheat and other grains - starts a reaction in your autoimmune system that directly affects the small intestine.

Without treatment, celiac disease can lead to cancer, anemia, seizures, osteoporosis and from a neurological standpoint peripheral neuropathy - any of these can be fatal.
Since this disease directly affects the small intestine, digestive issues make perfect sense as to why neuropathy sufferers need a doctor who treats them from a metabolic standpoint. But what about these symptoms:
  • Burning, tingling and numbness in hands and feet
  • Loss of feeling in hands and feet
  • Numbness, tingling or reduced sensation in the face and body

If you suffer with any of these symptoms you may have a condition called peripheral Neuropathy.

At first glance, it's hard to make the connection between gluten sensitivity and peripheral neuropathy. A study that appeared in the British Medical Journal that about 40% of people with gluten sensitivity had peripheral neuropathy symptoms before their digestive system issues appeared. I believe based on my clinical testing this number is more like 50 to 60%.

For that reason, many people who have neuropathy symptoms with no other indicators for neuropathy, should be checked for this disease as a possible cause of their neuropathy.

The best thing you can do for yourself is contact a doctor who works with patients suffering with Peripheral Neuropathy like Dr Hagmeyer at the Naperville Institute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions in Naperville, IL. It is critical to undergo the appropriate testing to find out if celiac
disease or a Gluten Sensitivity is contributing to your peripheral neuropathy.

Standard testing misses over 70% of people with Gluten sensitivity. This is why at The Naperville Institute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions we use the most advanced laboratories in detecting this epidemic problem.

Once your testing is completed, if you have gluten sensitivity induced neuropathy, Dr Hagmeyer will outline a metabolic program designed to heal your digestive system, and your feet. Again I cannot stress it enough. Gluten is very serious. Our office offers advanced testing that can help you in making the proper food choices and how to eliminate this toxin.

  • Avoid all foods containing wheat
  • Avoid other grains that contain gluten (rye, barley and oats - that means no pasta, grains, cereals and many processed foods).
  • Don’t be fooled by many of the “Gluten Free Foods” being sold on the market. For certain individual even these “Gluten free foods” are enough to fire up your autoimmune condition. Advanced testing offered by Dr Hagmeyer will help in determining what’s safe and what’s not.
  • Follow a gluten-free diet for the rest of your life. We can show you how this can be done.

Here are some things you can do to help cope with your neuropathy symptoms caused by this disease, YOU SHOULD:
Consider a natural approach to lowering your cholesterol. Something you should be aware of is that Statins aka “cholesterol lowering medications” can cause peripheral neuropathy.
  • Modify your lifestyle to reduce your pain - like avoiding standing or walking for extended periods of time
  • Wear looser shoes.
  • Soak your feet in ice water
  • We find that customized orthotic therapeutic shoes can help eliminate sensitive pressure points in your feet.
  • Work with a doctor who is truly passionate about getting patients better using natural methods. Simply taking medications and not changing your lifestyle cannot fix this problem.
As a final note Celiac disease and peripheral neuropathy as you may already know, can wreak havoc on your body. Work with a doctor who will look at the Big Picture. A doctor who will investigate the many metabolic problems and challenges that people with peripheral Neuropathy experience.

A doctor who looks at the big picture will work with you metabolically and neurologically. This doctor will spend time investigating and identify offending agents like food sensitivities (Gluten, Casein, Soy), hormones (Adrenal, Thyroid, Estrogen, Testosterone etc), vitamin deficiencies, Stress hormones (Cortisol / DHEA), Blood Sugar Levels, Gastrointestinal stress. A doctor who takes the time to investigate your condition will be the doctor who helps you get your life back!

Dr Hagmeyers Approach to the Treatment of Peripheral Neuropathy IS Paving The Way for Peripheral Neuropathy Sufferers.

Heres How the Rebuilder Works(all the technical stuff)

The ReBuilder sends out a "test" signal that represents the most common waveform for healthy peripheral nerves. (Diagram # 1) This signal goes from one foot, up the leg to the nerve roots in your back, down the other leg, to the other foot.

Normal peripheral nerve waveform It then waits for an echo-like response from this initial signal. This phenomenon is similar to the patella reflex when your doctor hits just below your kneecap with a little rubber hammer and your leg kicks out.

When this initial signal reaches the other foot, an automatic response sends a signal back to the ReBuilder. (See the illustration of these signals going back and forth above.)
The ReBuilder analyzes this returned signal in a split second and analyzes for returning waveform for aberrations.

Just as a cardiologist can take one look at the shape of the signal displayed on the EKG monitor above the patient's bed in the hospital and diagnose what is wrong with the heart, we have been able to identify that the peripheral nerves have a very particular shape to its waveform. Therefore we can diagnose the nature of the problem from analyzing that waveform. This feature is built into the ReBuilder and processed by its internal microprocessor.

Abnormalities in the shape of the waveform on the way up indicate issues; the shape of the top of the waveform indicates the ability of the nerve to deliver the signal long enough for the brain to receive it all; abnormalities in the downward slope of the waveform indicates pain, and the shape of the refractory period below the baseline (as the nerve cell repolarize's itself) indicates the ability of the nerve pathway to prepare for the next signal.

The ReBuilder then creates a compensating waveform (similar to the Bose headphones that cancel out the background noise on airplanes). Where there is too much energy displayed, the ReBuilder adapts the treating waveform to reduce that energy. Where the waveform indicates too little energy, it increases the energy in that particular area. This process goes on 7.83 times every second, sending a signal, analyzing the returning signal, creating a compensating signal, and then sending this new signal.

The reason for the 7.83 Hz frequency is that it takes time for the nerve cell to re-polarize (or reset) itself between its transmission of nerve signals. Minerals have to squeeze through little holes in the cell wall, and then return. This takes time. We have found that if we slow down the treatment to 7.83 times per second, it gives the nerves time to re-polarize and get ready for the next signal.

ReBuilder Optimized Signal Balances Abnormal WaveformA common TENS signal uses an unnatural, uncontrolled, simple signal 90 to 100 times per second precisely to stop the nerve from operating. This may temporarily give some pain relief, but can permanently damage the nerve cell possibly resulting in permanent paralysis. The ReBuilder acts like a pacemaker works for your heart's electrical signals. If the pacemaker does not send exactly the right signal, then the four chambers of the heart may not pump in the right order and if the signal is too fast or too slow, the heart stops. So, the ReBuilder's precisely controlled waveform coaxes your nerves to transmit their signals in the proper order.

Unlike a common TENS device, the ReBuilder's signals are vastly more controlled and precise with an automatic feedback loop that allows the ReBuilder to create the exact waveform that your individual body needs 7.83 times each second! A TENS device only blocks pain signals from getting to the brain, while the ReBuilder opens the nerve pathways. The ReBuilder sooths irritated nerves, and wakes up numb nerves.

You can think of the ReBuilder as a pacemaker for your nerves. A heart pacemaker reads your heart's electrical signals and then makes adjustments on the fly to increase a too slow a heart beat or slow down a too fast heart beat. The ReBuilder reads your peripheral nerve's signals, analyzes them, and then sends out a compensating signal.

Peripheral Neuropathy left untreated, is a progressive disease. (Nerve Damage gets worse) Natural Neuropathy Treatment works!

If your current treatment program is not working, you may face a future of life in a wheelchair and amputations.
If you don't try the ReBuilder and Our Metabolic appraoch what will your future be?

Please read everything on this site, and then sit back and consider your alternatives.

With the ReBuilder, you can reduce your pain with your very first 30 minute treatment. Beneficial results increase with continued use and may become permanent.

Naperville Neuropathy Doctors Discusses Symtoms associated with Neuropathy

For a complete list of the side effects of Neuropathy click here

Peripheral Neuropathy? Numbness? Shock Like Sensations, Tinlging? Burning? All of the Above?

Depending on the type of neuropathy, there can be a wide range of pains and side effects. In most cases, the side effects generally start in the extremities such as the hands and feet. Without successful treatment like the kind used in our office, the side effects can continue unabated and begin to affect other, more widespread areas of the body. Many times, the progression from the extremities to the rest of the body is slow. Sometimes, however, neuropathy can move rapidly throughout the body.

The following side effects and pains are often seen in those people who have neuropathy:
  • Clumsiness and weakness when moving
  • urination difficulties when trying to maintain control
  • burning, tingling, and numbness in the hands and feet or both regions
  • dizziness when standing
  • unable to feel textures or temperatures
  • erectile dysfunction
  • infections

Naperville IL Neuropathy Relief. A Few Patient Testimonials Dr Hagmeyer

You already know we specialize in treating Neuropathy, and you've heard from me in the last few blogs and perhaps you're receiving emails from us (if not, what are you waiting for? Put your information in the box on your right to receive even more information and my free Peripheral Neuroapthy Recovery Report.)

In this blog, I'll let some of our patients do the talking –

Mrs. Davis

“Over the past 15 years, I felt like I was walking on sponges. My feet were numb, hot and burning. I heard about the Naperville Institute For NeuroMetabolic Solutions and felt I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. My doctor NEVER offered me any treatment; he just said I would ‘have to live with it.’
I now have more feeling, more confidence and better balance. They kept me informed about each step of the way and the treatment definitely is working. I was losing both sensory and motor skills...so if it worked for me, it can work for others. Everybody at the clinic is very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend this treatment to others."

Mrs. Rigman

"For the past 6-7 years it felt like I was wearing invisible stockings, I had numbness in both feet, the tops and the bottoms, I also had some shooting pain in my toes. The numbness has gotten worse in the past 2 years.
The treatment has reduced the numbness in my feet; I can now feel the carpet when I couldn't before treatment. Although the pain and numbness are not completely gone, I feel much better. Everyone is very supportive, helpful in explaining what's being done, very professional and very nice."

Mr. Johnson

"Wow, what a relief: no more pain or numbness in my feet!
Now I can do the things I did 5 years ago; I can run up and down steps without being so cautious, I am more confident in my footing and my balance is better. And I have more "pep" in my step. Before treatment I was in pain and felt like I was always walking on cardboard. I was previously prescribed medicine to stop the pain but it wasn't working. This program is different because it restored my feet back to normal. As someone who has been through the program, I can recommend Dr Hagmeyer to anyone."

Naperville Neuropathy Relief. Number One Cause of Neuropathy. Dr Richard Hagmeyer

Dr Hagmeyer Explains the Causes Neuropathy?

Diabetes is one of the most common causes of neuropathy.

You may not know this but as many as half of the people diagnosed with diabetes will also suffer from neuropathy eventually.

Diabetic neuropathy is the term typically associated with the type of neuropathy that is caused by diabetes. Although it can affect any of the nerves in the body, diabetic neuropathy typically affects the nerves in the hands and feet most severely.

Diabetes is a common condition that has reached almost epidemic levels in the industrialized world. Diabetes is a chronic and system wide disease that results from the body's inability to properly process glucose, also known as blood sugar. This is often because the body lacks the correct amount of insulin that is required to break down the glucose into elements the body can use.

Diabetic neuropathy is the most common serious complication of diabetes. BUT DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED! Neuropathy can be easily prevented and it's progress drastically slowed with proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle and a Natural Neuropathy Treatment Program like the one we use in our office.

There are a number of other causes of neuropathy as well. These include, but are not limited to the following:

  • alcoholism
  • exposure to some types of toxins or other kinds of poisons
  • infections
  • genetic disorders
  • tumors that exert pressure on the surrounding nerves
  • trauma to the nerve from an auto accident, for example
  • extended pressure on the nerve
  • repetitive movements such typing which can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus

Naperville, IL Diabetes and Thyroid Disease. Why Diabetics Need to Have Their Thyroid Properly tested. Dr Richard Hagmeyer.Naperville IL

DIABETES, METABOLIC SYNDROME AND THYROID DISEASE. WHY DIABETICS NEED TO BE TESTED PROPERLY FOR THYROID DISEASE.

According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, 27 million Americans suffer from thyroid dysfunction – half of whom go undiagnosed. Subclinical hypothyroidism, a condition in which TSH is elevated but free T4 is normal, may affect an additional 24 million Americans. Taken together, more than 50 million Americans are affected by some form of thyroid disorder.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS), also affects 50 million Americans, and insulin resistance, one of the components of metabolic syndrome, affects up to 105 million Americans. That’s 35% of the population. Metabolic syndrome has become so common that it’s predicted to eventually bankrupt our healthcare system. Both metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance are risk factors for heart disease and diabetes, two of the leading causes of death in the developed world.

With such a high prevalence of both thyroid dysfunction and metabolic syndrome, you might suspect there’s a connection between the two. And you’d be right. Click on the "Learn more about Our Thryoid Help system" to Learn more about Thyroid Treatment.

Studies show an increased frequency of thyroid disorders in diabetics, and a higher prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome in people with thyroid disorders.

That’s because healthy thyroid function depends on keeping your blood sugar in a normal range, and keeping your blood sugar in a normal range depends on healthy thyroid function. This is very often the reason why diabetics never truly get better. Conventional medicine does not look at the whole picture and often ignores the Thyroid connection.

How high blood sugar affects the Thyroid. Dr Hagmeyer Explains
Metabolic syndrome is defined as a group of metabolic risk factors appearing together, including:

  • abdominal obesity;
  • high cholesterol and triglycerides;
  • high blood pressure;
  • insulin resistance;
  • tendency to form blood clots; and,
  • Inflammation.

Metabolic syndrome is caused by chronic hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Chronic hyperglycemia is caused by eating too many carbohydrates. Therefore, metabolic syndrome could more simply be called “excess carbohydrate disease”. In fact, some researchers have gone as far as defining metabolic syndrome as “those physiologic markers that respond to reduction in dietary carbohydrate.”

When you eat too many carbs, the pancreas secretes insulin to move excess glucose from the blood into the cells where glucose is used to produce energy. But over time, the cells lose the ability to respond to insulin. It’s as if insulin is knocking on the door, but the cells can’t hear it. The pancreas responds by pumping out even more insulin (knocking louder) in an effort to get glucose into the cells, and this eventually causes insulin resistance.

Studies have shown that the repeated insulin surges common in insulin resistance increase the destruction of the thyroid gland in people with autoimmune thyroid disease. As the thyroid gland is destroyed, thyroid hormone production falls. This is one of the mechansims by which diabetics often complain of  fatigue, weight gain, mental sluggishness and pain.

If this is happening to you or a loved one contact our office today at 630-718-0555.
CONCLUSIONS:
The increased frequency of thyroid dysfunction in diabetic patients and its likely deleterious effects on cardiovascular and metabolic function calls for a systematic approach to thyroid disease screening in diabetes. Routine annual thyroid testing should be targeted at diabetic patients at risk of thyroid dysfunction, such as patients with Diabetes, positive thyroid antibodies or high-normal TSH concentrations.
